Perfect Six Finds Perfect Style

Perfect Six, a 2-year-old filly who had won only one of three starts in Northern California, used a different running style to win Sunday’s $73,870 Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park.

After racing close to the front in her last two races at Bay Meadows, Perfect Six was rated off the lead while Ode To Elaine and Western Woman reeled off an opening half-mile in 44 3/5 seconds. Perfect Six and jockey David Flores were last in the five-horse field then, almost seven lengths behind, but trainer Bill Morey Jr.’s filly made a long run that brought her the lead in mid-stretch.

She won by six lengths over Western Woman, with Ode To Elaine finishing third.

Perfect Six, who was purchased for $14,000 as a yearling, completed seven furlongs in 1:23, paying $17.40 as the fourth choice.

Morey, who has brought eight horses from Northern California for Hollywood Park’s fall meet, also won a race Friday night.

“There’s a possible sale [of Perfect Six],” Morey said. “The price might have gone up the way she ran.”
