A committee interested in preserving the historic buildings at Villa Park Elementary School is exploring ways to pay for restoration work. Officials have estimated it would cost as much as $1.4 million to preserve and bring the 1918 buildings up to earthquake safety codes.

Villa Park Elementary Historic Buildings Preservation Committee members are seeking funding from preservation groups and through grants and private donations. The group also is interested in finding school contractors interested in performing the work.

Orange Unified School District trustees have given the committee until March to present a plan.
