Mann Hits Mark, Leads Santa Margarita

Sophomore Lori Mann set a school record to help Santa Margarita defeat Newport Harbor, 23-37, in a Sea View League girls’ cross-country meet Thursday at Santa Margarita.

Mann led the Eagles (3-2, 1-2 in league) by finishing the three-mile course in 18 minutes 28 seconds, breaking the previous record set by Katie Nuanes (18:32) in 1996. Alicia McFall finished second in 19:09 for Newport Harbor (0-3 in league).

In other Sea View League meets:

Irvine 23, Woodbridge 32--Melissa Livermore was the top runner for Irvine (2-1), finishing second in 18:00 on the three-mile course at Woodbridge. Irvine is ranked 10th in Division I.

Jessica Kanin finished first (17:55) for Woodbridge (0-3), ranked second in Division II.

Corona del Mar 21, El Toro 37--The Sea Kings’ Liz Morse won in 17:39 over three miles at Corona del Mar High.

In the Century League:

Foothill 21, Canyon 37--Laura Strachan broke the freshman school record (19:23) on the Irvine Park three-mile course.

In Century League boys’ cross- country:

Villa Park 23, El Modena 32--Augie Escobar won the race in 15:38 over 3.1 miles at Irvine Park for Villa Park (2-1), ranked fourth in Division II. Mike Allen was the top runner for El Modena (2-1), ranked second in Division III, finishing second in 15:58.

In the Empire League:

Loara 21, Kennedy 40--Loara’s Jose Herrera finished in 15:27 over three miles at Kennedy.

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 21, Woodbridge 38--Matt Farrell won in 15:15 for Irvine (2-1) on the three-mile course at Woodbridge.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 15, Fountain Valley 48--Ryan Bousquet’s 15:05 on the three-mile course at Yorba Regional Park was tops for Esperanza (2-1, 2-1).
