Harvard-Westlake Runs Up a Score on St. Bonaventure

George Witter rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns in 33 carries for Harvard-Westlake High in a 20-6 nonleague football victory over St. Bonaventure on Thursday at Ventura High.

Witter scored on touchdown runs of 30 and four yards in the third quarter to give the Wolverines (5-0) a 14-0 lead.

St. Bonaventure (2-3) was without running back Jesse Kirk in the first half. St. Bonaventure Coach Jon Mack said he was not held out for disciplinary reasons, but to work on different offensive schemes.

“We were looking to change things up a little bit,” Mack said.

Kirk finished with 12 yards in two carries and had two catches for 11 yards, including a six-yard touchdown pass from Chris Lombardo.

Harvard-Westlake controlled the ball for 9:46 of the second quarter. The Wolverines had a 17-play, 96-yard drive that began on the last play of the first quarter.

The drive ended with an incomplete pass by Matt Felder on a fourth and goal at the Seraphs’ three-yard line.

Harvard-Westlake also controlled the ball for most of the third quarter, when the Seraphs had only five offensive plays.

Receiver Matt Leeth of St. Bonaventure lost a fumble after a seven-yard reception on the Seraphs’ fifth play of the third quarter.

The turnover led to Luke Horn-blower’s one-yard touchdown run, which capped a nine-play, 61-yard drive with 9:35 left to play and gave Harvard-Westlake a 20-0 lead.

Harvard-Westlake got 256 of its 357 total yards on the ground.

Hornblower finished with 44 yards on 12 carries.

Lombardo completed 13 of 22 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown and did not have a pass intercepted.

St. Bonaventure was held to three yards rushing in 12 carries.
