Ramirez, Greene Place 1-2 for Northridge

Seniors Javier Ramirez and John Greene of Cal State Northridge placed first and second to help the Matadors to a fifth-place finish in the Long Beach State Invitational cross-country meet Saturday.

Ramirez clocked 25:14 over the 8,000-meter course and Greene timed 25:16 to help Northridge total 113 points.

Fila Track West placed first with 35 points, followed by the Ocean Beach Harriers with 78, Long Beach State with 84 and the Men of Troy Track Club with 85.

Northridge junior Nancy James placed eighth in 18:10 in the 5,000-meter women’s race and the Matadors finished fourth with 115 points.

Cal Lutheran Invitational--Andi Crane placed third and Cindy Ham was fifth to lift the host Regals to the women’s title.

Crane clocked 20:34 over the 5,000-meter course and Ham ran 20:51 for Cal Lutheran, which defeated runner-up Redlands, 41-50.

Cal Lutheran placed third in the men’s race behind Geir Kristensen, who finished fourth with a time of 27:27 over the 8,000-meter course.

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 2, United States International 1--Freshman Marcos Bongarra scored the winning goal six minutes into overtime for host Master’s (7-4-2) in the nonconference game.

Freshman teammate Anthon Brueggeman scored a goal with 20 minutes left in the second half.

Loyola Marymount 2, CS Northridge 1--Brad Myrand scored twice in the first 16 minutes for the Lions (4-6) in a nonconference game at Loyola Marymount that snapped a six-game Northridge winning streak.

The Matadors (6-4) were spared the shutout on an own goal by the Lions’ Andre Childers in the 88th minute.

Cal Lutheran 3, Pomona-Pitzer 1--Charlie Noble, Scott Porter and John Teeter all scored in the first 10 minutes for the Kingsmen (7-4, 2-1) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory at Cal Lutheran.
