* Whether or not you can get to Westlake High on Thursday night, you can watch the Newbury Park-Westlake game on television. It will be broadcast on a tape delay at 10 p.m. and replayed Saturday at 1 p.m. on Fox Sports West 2. The game probably will decide the Marmonte League championship.

* Playing football is back on the In-Things-To-Do list at Granada Hills. And attending the cross-town rivalry game between Granada Hills and Kennedy--on Oct. 23--is once again a must-see, especially if Kennedy beats Taft on Friday. If Granada Hills and Taft both down Kennedy, then circle Nov. 13 on your calendar. That’s the final game of the regular season between the Highlanders and Toreadors to decide the Northwest Valley Conference champion.

* Notre Dame, even without Justin Fargas, has won its first five games. But the road doesn’t get any easier. The Knights next four games are Friday at home against Harvard-Westlake, Oct. 23 at Crespi, Oct. 30 at Bishop Amat, and Nov. 6 at home against Loyola--teams with a combined 20-0 record.

* The pecking order in the Golden League should be sorted out after Lancaster hosts Littlerock on Oct. 30. If Lancaster wins, the league title might not be decided until the final game of the regular season, when Lancaster plays at Antelope Valley.

* L.A. Baptist has a 12-game Alpha League winning streak that could be up to 14 by the time the Knights visit Paraclete on Oct. 30. Paraclete, in its first season in the Alpha League, has its own winning streak. The Spirits have won 13 consecutive league games--those being against High Desert League competition.

* OK, so this is looking way ahead. But we can hardly wait until Hart meets St. Paul and its legendary coach, Marijon Ancich, in the Southern Section Division III championship game.
