Fatal shooting--A story in the Oct. 14 editions of The Times reported that Los Angeles Police Department officers who observed a killing in South-Central exchanged gunshots with suspects. The story was based on an interview with a department spokesman. LAPD Chief Bernard C. Parks, however, says the officers did not exchange shots with any of the suspects involved in the incident.

LAPD spokesman Dwayne White said officers near 48th Street and Central Avenue observed a “murder in progress.” He provided no details about the killing or the victim.

“The suspects then looked in the direction of the officers and fired several shots, striking the police vehicle,” White said.
