Becher’s 4th Goal Helps Brea Beat Western

Mark Becher scored his fourth goal with 24 seconds remaining in overtime to help host Brea Olinda defeat Western, 14-13, in an Orange League boys’ water polo game Tuesday.

Western (11-2, 1-1 in league) took a 13-12 lead in overtime on Justin Weinstock’s third goal, but Cody Lowe pulled Brea (5-7, 2-0) even, scoring his only goal to set the stage for Becher’s game-winner.

In Empire League water polo:

Katella 12, El Dorado 5--Jeff Pratt scored seven goals and Scott Shaddy had three goals for the Knights (13-2, 2-0). Host El Dorado is 1-1 in league play.

In the Golden West League:

No. 4 Servite 21, Ocean View 4--Dane Jansen scored six goals for host Servite (11-3, 2-0), which led, 13-2, at halftime.

Saddleback 24, Westminster 9--Daniel Noon scored 10 goals and Luis and Julian Gonzalez added six each for Saddleback (9-5, 1-1).

In Empire/Orange League girls’ golf:

Valencia 108, Loara 178--Nikki Glowin had three birdies and finished with a one-under 29 at Brea for host Valencia (11-1, 8-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 123, Aliso Niguel 155--Freshman Angela Won shot two-over 38 at Strawberry Farms for host University (9-0, 3-0).

In the Sunset League:

Edison 116, Esperanza 120--Medalist Lauren Brown shot a one-over 32 at David L. Baker for host Edison (5-2, 2-1).

In a nonleague match:

Villa Park 137, Rosary 153--Maggie Barnett shot a two-over 35 for host Rosary at Fullerton. Shelly Raworth shot 39 for Villa Park (3-7).

In Century League girls’ volleyball:

El Modena 3, Villa Park 0--Michelle Armstrong had 24 kills for host El Modena (4-6, 2-1), which won, 15-10, 15-11, 15-11.

Foothill 3, Canyon 0--Daniele Bauer had 30 kills and Becky Radomski had 17 for Foothill (6-3, 3-0), which won, 15-8, 15-4, 15-6.

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 3, Sunny Hills 0--Keao Burdine had 14 kills and Candice Galvin added 13 digs for visiting La Habra (8-1, 3-0), the top-ranked team in Division II-A. Stevie Nicholas had 14 kills for Sunny Hills (8-6, 2-1).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 3, Ontario Christian 0--Amy Owens had 10 kills and T.J. Gause had nine for Calvary Chapel (7-1, 5-1), which won, 15-0, 15-4, 15-1.

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 3, El Toro 0--Kathy Lavold and Brenda Waterman had six kills each in the 15-2, 15-3, 15-2 victory for Newport Harbor (7-0, 3-0), Division I-AA’s top-ranked team.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Dana Hills 0--Renee Delsigne had six kills for host Capistrano Valley (11-0, 3-0), which won, 15-5, 15-5, 15-5.

Mater Dei 3, Mission Viejo 0--Lindsay Pavlik had 13 kills and Corinne Caswell had seven for Mater Dei (4-3, 2-1), which won, 15-11, 15-11, 15-4.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 3, Edison 0--Laura St. John had 11 kills and Toni Anderson had 34 assists in the 15-0, 15-5, 15-5 victory for visiting Esperanza. The Aztecs (7-2, 3-0) are ranked seventh in Division I-AA. Edison is 8-6, 1-2.

Marina 3, Huntington Beach 0--Chanda McLeod had 19 kills, Ashlee Phillips had 28 assists and five blocks and Grace Boyd had eight kills and five blocks for Marina (5-1, 3-0), which won, 15-9, 15-4, 15-8.
