Woman Held in Attempt to Cut Baby With Razor Blade
A woman who allegedly tried to slash her 8-week-old daughter with a razor blade was booked for attempted murder, authorities said.
Mikona Turner, 31, was in custody Thursday at the County-USC Medical Center jail ward after being arrested Wednesday at 9:45 p.m., said Det. Ysabel Villegas of the Los Angeles Police Department’s child abuse unit.
Officers were called to a South-Central fast-food restaurant by witnesses who prevented the mother from slashing her daughter, Villegas said.
When officers arrived at the restaurant in the 1400 block of East of Vernon Avenue, they “learned that Turner had begun to slash herself and her baby girl on the arms with a razor blade,” Villegas said.
After officers restrained Turner, paramedics treated the mother and daughter at the scene. Both were listed in stable condition Wednesday and the baby was placed under the custody of the county’s children’s services, Villegas said.
