Simi Valley 10, San Luis Obispo 8--Despite the absence of No. 1 singles player Mindy Gondrez, the Pioneers (11-2) overcame the Tigers (10-2) in a nonleague match at San Luis Obispo.

Simi Valley won seven of the nine doubles matches and the tandem of Rebecca Hunau and Stella Chu improved their season record to 39-0 with a sweep. Gondrez missed the match because of illness. San Luis Obispo is ranked No. 4 in Southern Section Division IV.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge def. Weber State, 6-15, 15-8, 15-9, 15-8--Nancy Ma had 20 kills and nine digs to help the Matadors rally after losing the first game of the Big Sky Conference match at Weber State.

Laura Szymanski added 12 kills and 13 digs and Kristin Sigel had 11 kills for Northridge (7-7, 3-4).

Northwest Nazarene (Tex.) def. The Master’s, 16-14, 15-6, 15-2--Beth Barrington had 13 kills and eight digs and Kersten Galbraith had eight kills and 11 digs for the Master’s, but the Mustangs (13-10) were swept in the third-place match of the St. Edward’s tournament in Austin, Tex.

Cal Lutheran def. La Verne, 15-6, 15-12, 15-11--Lauren McCartin had 15 kills and five digs and Kristin Scott added 12 kills and four aces for Cal Lutheran as the Regals won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at La Verne.

MEN’S SOCCER

Northridge 4, San Diego 2--Mike Preis scored twice and Luis Castro and Federico Arroyo added goals to pace the Matadors (8-5) in a nonconference game against San Diego (7-7) at Northridge.

Findlay (Ohio) 1, The Master’s 1--Erik Benitez scored his sixth goal in the 61st minute off a pass from Ryan Tohill to lift the Mustangs (9-4-3) into a nonconference tie against Findlay (10-2-2) at Master’s.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS-COUNTRY

Santa Clarita Invitational--After leading by four seconds at the midway point of the girls’ large schools division race, Lauren Fleshman of host Canyon ran away from the pack for a 1 minute 13 second victory to help the Cowboys to a first-place finish.

Fleshman clocked 16:45 over the three-mile course at Castaic Lake, with Lancaster’s Rosanna Kirkendall second in 17:58.

Canyon placed three other runners in the top 10 to finish with 32 points. Birmingham was second with 55 points, led by Erika Dlezal’s 18:15 third-place finish.

In the boys’ large schools race, Don Lugo paced all five scoring runners in the top 10 to defeat Canyon, 23-91.

Luke Llamas placed sixth for the Cowboys in 15:12. Lakewood’s Ozwaldo Pina clocked 14:26 to capture the individual championship.

COLLEGE WRESTLING

West Valley tournament--Armando Torres and Chuck Sandlin each placed second for Moorpark at West Valley College. Torres defaulted to Alex Ortiz of Fresno in the 133-pound final after injuring an ankle, and Sandlin was beaten, 5-4, by Fresno’s Jason Rossitti in the 184-pound final.
