Carpool Lanes

The carpool lanes are a great idea. However, many people who drive the lanes do so in order to travel faster than 65 mph. Even cars with one driver use the lanes, since police patrol is almost nil.

I suggest that the lanes be restricted to vehicles with three or more people and carpool vans from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the lanes can be used by any car except trucks. During the restricted periods the lanes should be dutifully patrolled.
