Questionable return: Westlake receivers Mike Seidman (hip pointer), an All-American senior tight end, and Chris Catalano (ankle) are not practicing this week and are questionable for the Warriors’ Marmonte League game Friday against Thousand Oaks.

Bruising game: Valencia running back Manuel White, who leads the region with 951 rushing yards, is likely to miss the Vikings’ Foothill League game Friday night against Burbank.

White left Valencia’s 27-22 victory over Burroughs last Friday late in the third quarter because of a leg injury and did not return.

He was on crutches after the game and an orthopedic surgeon examined him, but no serious damage was found.

“It’s more of a thigh bruise than a knee problem,” Valencia Coach Brian Stiman said. “There’s going to be swelling and it’s going to be sore.”

White might be available Friday, but considering Burbank (1-5, 0-1 in league play) has been outscored, 201-59, since an opening-week victory over winless Murphy, Stiman won’t take any chances.

Dawn of new era: Lights arrived Monday from Iowa at El Camino Real, setting the stage for the Conquistadores to play their first night home football game with permanent lights since the school opened in 1969.

The light poles are expected to be raised beginning today. The school hopes the lights will be completed in time for Friday’s 7 p.m. game against Cleveland.

Wait ‘til next year: This was supposed to be the season Taft (5-1, 3-0) became beatable in the Northwest Valley Conference. But the Toreadors have won 18 consecutive conference games, including consecutive shutouts of San Fernando and Kennedy.

“Taft looked as good as any team they’ve had,” Kennedy Coach Bob Francola said after his team’s 42-0 loss to Toreadors.

Toll mounting: Oxnard was beat up entering last week’s Pacific League-opening loss at Camarillo, and lost two more players to injury.

Coach Wes Morimune said standout tight end Jacob Rogers dislocated a shoulder and nose guard Raul Razo injured a knee. Both are expected to be sidelined this week against Rio Mesa, along with center Gabriel Cabello, who is still out because of a thigh bruise.

Also injured last week was quarterback Matthew Merricks, who suffered a high ankle sprain. Morimune said the junior will continue to alternate with Louis Williams this week if he’s able to play.

On the bright side, Morimune hopes to get receiver Aaron Neal back from a hip injury that had kept the junior out for three weeks.

Injury update: L.A. Baptist receiver Garrett Ellis, who dislocated his hip Saturday against Kilpatrick, expects to learn today whether his season is over.

Ellis, who has caught 16 passes for 440 yards, will be examined today by Dr. Richard Ferkel, an orthopedist.

The first-quarter injury occurred at Alemany High, within six feet of team doctor and the player’s father, Russell Ellis, and only about 100 yards from Providence-Holy Cross Medical Center.

As Ellis waited in the emergency room, he received regular updates on the game from L.A. Baptist basketball players, who could hear the stadium loudspeakers from outside the hospital.

L.A. Baptist lost, 36-18.

Record night: Hart High set a couple of school records in its 63-14 victory over Saugus on Friday, the most ironic of which was Kirk Bardin’s nine extra points.

Bardin made all nine extra-point attempts, breaking the single-game record of eight set by Brady Vilensky in 1989.

A week earlier, in a 23-22 loss to Loyola, the Indians missed two extra-point attempts. One was blocked and the other went awry because of a high snap.

Hart’s 63 points on Friday eclipsed the school record of 62 set in 1958 against Carpinteria.
