The Devil to Pay on Fox; CHiPS Marathon on TNT

Fox unveils its latest series and the stars of “CHiPS” host a marathon of favorite episodes this week.

Peter Horton stars in Fox’s new dark thriller, “Brimstone,” Friday at 8 p.m. on KTTV. He plays a New York cop who is sent to hell after killing his wife’s rapist. The devil (John Glover) promises he’ll be redeemed if he can capture 113 souls who have escaped from hell.

Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada host a viewers’ choice marathon of their ‘70s series, “CHiPs,” Friday at 11 p.m. on TNT.

Mike Connors (“Mannix”) guests on “Walker, Texas Ranger,” Saturday at 10 p.m. on KCBS, as a judge-turned-author. The script was written by two accountants who are fans of the Chuck Norris series.

If the World Series is over, Fox will present the latest installment of “The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on KTTV. The special Halloween edition features animated characters interacting with live-action guest stars. Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jerry Springer and Ed McMahon star. A repeat of a vintage “Treehouse” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

E! Entertainment Television’s “The E! True Hollywood Story” looks at the late comedian Andy Kaufman, Sunday at 8 p.m.

PBS’ “Masterpiece Theatre” presents a four-hour tale of forbidden love, “A Respectable Trade,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on KCET. Emma Fielding, Warren Clarke and Ariyon Bakere star. The conclusion airs Monday at 9 p.m.

Sports

Fox presents Game 5, if necessary, of the World Series between the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres, tonight at 5 on KTTV. Game 6, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Game 7, Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Movies

Bobbie Phillips stars in UPN’s thriller “Chameleon,” tonight at 8 on KCOP. Phillips plays a genetically engineered predator who protects a boy from her creator, a corrupt government investigator.

Beau Bridges and Martha Plimpton return to their roles as members of the Preston family in “The Defenders: Taking the First,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Showtime, the third in a series of films based on the 1960s courtroom drama series.

Janine Turner, Jamey Sheridan and Hal Holbrook star in CBS’ “Beauty,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on KCBS. The drama is a contemporary retelling of the classic love story “Beauty and the Beast.”

Adam Arkin and Joely Fisher star in NBC’s “Thirst,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on KNBC. The thriller deals with a deadly parasite that infects the water system.

Specials

Garry Shandling emcees TNT’s “Hollywood Salutes Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Friday at 8 p.m. The superstar will be accepting the American Cinematheque Award for making a “significant contribution” to film and video.

Pam Grier narrates “Paul Robeson: Speak of Me as I Am,” Friday at 10 p.m on KCET. The documentary chronicles the life and times of the actor-singer-scholar who was blacklisted when he spoke out in defense of the Communist party.

Leonard Nimoy heads a cast performing radio-style dramatizations of stories by Poe, Kipling and Wilde on the Sci-Fi Channel’s “Alien Voices: A Halloween Trilogy,” Sunday at 6 and 10 p.m.

Documentaries

The Discovery Channel’s “Nature’s Wrath II,” tonight at 10, looks at the devastation brought about by natural disasters.

The Learning Channel’s “Haunted Lighthouses,” Sunday at 7 p.m., visits more than a half dozen mysterious lighthouses across America.
