Prop. 8

Share

* I congratulate you for recommending a no vote on Prop. 8 (editorial, Oct. 18). It is a veiled attempt to do away with public education in California because it would give principals the power to fire teachers and other school employees without due process. Fewer and fewer talented men and women will be willing to put their fate in the hands of unscrupulous administrators.

Be aware that the Los Angeles Unified School District has named 56 or so “bad principals.” Of these, only six were either transferred or relocated to desk jobs. The other 50 are still wreaking havoc. Bad principals affect children, parents, faculty, school personnel and the whole community.

Teachers should be allowed to teach to the best of their ability and not have to worry about an unfair and inept principal who can threaten their livelihood. This is just one reason why Prop. 8 should be soundly defeated.
