Council OKs Plan for Golf Course, Homes

Share

A proposal to build 450 upscale homes and an 18-hole public golf course has moved forward as the City Council approved drafting a development agreement with Swift Financial Corp.

In a 4-0 vote with Councilman Bedford Pinkard absent, the council on Tuesday directed City Manager Ed Sotelo to name a team of city staff members to work with Swift on an agreement to develop the 330-acre site near the River Ridge Golf Course, on Vineyard Avenue. The project’s boundaries include Gonzales and Patterson roads, the Santa Clara River and Victoria Avenue.

Public hearings on the project will be held at a later date.

About 80 acres of the proposed development are a former landfill; the remaining 250 acres, which would need to be annexed to the city, are mostly agricultural.

The golf course would be built on 185 acres. The plan also includes an elementary school site and two church sites, said Richard Maggio, community development and special projects director.
