Santa Margarita Rallies for Victory

Santa Margarita, the second-ranked team in the Southern Section Division II-AA, rallied to defeat host Corona del Mar, 15-5, 13-15, 13-15, 15-6, 15-5, in a Sea View League girls’ volleyball match Thursday.

Lauren Heri had 21 kills and Sarah Ballog added 18 for Santa Margarita (6-3, 4-2 in league), which lost to Corona del Mar (6-6, 3-3) in five games in their first league meeting this season.

Damitra Havriluk had 25 kills for Corona del Mar, ranked third in Division III-A.

In other Sea View matches:

Newport Harbor 3, Woodbridge 0--April Ross had eight kills for visiting Newport Harbor (10-0, 6-0), which won, 15-7, 15-7, 15-9. Ashley Rye had eight kills for Woodbridge (4-8, 1-5).

Irvine 3, El Toro 0--Ceneca Calvert had 10 kills for Irvine (9-3, 4-2), which won, 15-6, 15-1, 15-9. Katie Aguirre led El Toro (2-9, 0-6) with 12 kills and two aces.

In the Century League:

Foothill 3, El Modena 0--Danielle Bauer had 25 kills to lead Foothill, which won, 15-8, 15-11, 15-11. The Knights are 9-3, 6-0. Michelle Armstrong had 12 kills for El Modena (6-7, 4-2).

In the Empire League:

Cypress 3, Kennedy 0--Dusty Creager had 13 kills in the 15-9, 15-8, 15-7 victory for visiting Cypress (8-3, 6-0). Cira Wright had 17 kills for Kennedy (8-4, 3-3).

In the Freeway League:

La Habra 3, Troy 0--Suzanne Andrade had 14 kills to lead visiting La Habra (11-1, 6-0), which won, 15-3, 15-2, 15-9. The Highlanders are top-ranked in Division II-A.

Sunny Hills 3, Fullerton 0--Stevie Nicholas had 16 kills for host Sunny Hills (10-7, 4-2), which won, 15-2, 15-12, 15-9. Lauren Duggins had seven kills for Fullerton (6-10, 1-5).

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 3, Pacifica 1--Heidi Foster, Bonny Shum and Becky Yong had 10 kills each in the 11-15, 15-5, 15-10, 15-7 victory for La Quinta (12-1, 9-0). Pacifica is 4-6, 4-4.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mission Viejo 0--Becky Warnick had 13 kills for host Capistrano Valley (14-0, 6-0), which won 15-2, 15-6, 15-8. The Cougars are ranked eighth in Division I-AA.

Mater Dei 3, San Clemente 0--Katie Beauregard had 13 kills and Lindsay Pavlik had 12 for visiting Mater Dei (5-1 in league), which won, 15-9, 15-7, 15-10. The Monarchs are ranked third in Division II-AA.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 3, Fountain Valley 0--Denee Ezerins had 18 kills for host Huntington Beach (7-6, 4-2), which won, 15-10, 15-8, 15-2. Natalie Snowden had 17 kills for Fountain Valley (2-4 in league).

Marina 3, Edison 0--Chanda McLeod and Katie Keating each had eight kills for Marina (8-1, 6-0), which won, 15-3, 15-8, 15-3.

Lauren Belcher led Edison (3-9, 1-5) with 10 kills.
