Disciplined Calabasas Doesn’t Raise the Flag

From Staff Reports

Calabasas High has a very well-behaved football team.

The Coyotes have been penalized only 12 times in six games. Take away a five-penalty game against Verdugo Hills, and Calabasas has been flagged seven times for 75 yards.

During a 32-16 Frontier League victory over Santa Clara last week, the Coyotes were not penalized.

“I’m just really proud of the guys, that we don’t beat ourselves,” Coach Larry Edwards said.

The Coyotes (5-0-1, 1-0 in league play) have not been beaten by anyone else, either.

Not hurting themselves with penalties has helped.

“The coaches stress it and that’s just the way we play,” fullback Drew Coppola said. “We just play hard, clean football and that’s all anybody on our team wants to do.

“We’re disciplined, we’ve got good technique and we’re in pretty good shape. A lot of teams, toward the end, get tired and make mistakes by accident. But we haven’t really had that problem.”
