Littlerock Ends Dry Spell Against Antelope Valley, 24-0

Antelope Valley High was flat-out ‘Rocked on Friday night.

Littlerock, which had never defeated its Golden League nemesis, out-gained, out-hit and simply outplayed the Antelopes, 24-0, at Antelope Valley.

“I tip my hat to them,” said Antelope Coach Brent Newcomb, whose team had won every meeting since the Lobos entered the league in 1992. “I’ve got to say they played pretty well.”

Indeed.

Littlerock (7-0, 2-0 in league play), ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times, gained 323 yards and limited Antelope Valley (2-4-1, 1-1) to 186 yards.

“We had the team to do it and we finally did it,” said Lobo tailback Rodney Woods, who gained 172 yards in 20 carries and scored on first-half runs of 67 and 17 yards.

Woods and teammate Keith Williams have combined for 1,458 yards rushing. Williams rushed for 70 yards in 17 carries against the Antelopes.

Richard Newton threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Dibene--Littlerock’s first passing touchdown of the season--for a 21-0 halftime lead. Newton completed four of eight passes for 85 yards.

Andre Ramos converted a 36-yard field goal in the third quarter.

“This was an important win for our football program,” said Coach Jim Bauer, who started the program in 1989. “If you’re going to measure yourself in the Golden League, you measure against Antelope Valley.”

The Lobos will travel to No. 7-ranked Lancaster (6-1, 2-0) next week for a game that could determine the league championship.

Littlerock and Lancaster are the only league members never to have won a title.

Bruce Molock rushed for 118 yards in 20 carries for the Antelopes, providing the only highlight for a team that watched sophomore linebacker Mark Sutton carried from the field on a stretcher with a neck injury.

The Antelopes’ best opportunity to score came in the final moments, but Place was sacked by Jared Marchant for an 11-yard loss to kill a first-and-goal situation at the Lobo two.

Antelope Valley marched 65 yards to the Littlerock 28 on the game’s first drive, but Lobo LaRue Eason stripped Molock of the ball and Jason Camacho recovered.

Woods broke off a 67-yard touchdown run on Littlerock’s first play and added a 17-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
