Belmont 40, Verdugo Hills 8--Belmont scored on a 62-yard double pass on the first play of the Northern Conference game at Belmont. Quarterback Oscar Perez threw to wide receiver Manuel Quintana, who lofted a bomb to wide receiver Frank Lazarraga.
Luis Callejas of Verdugo Hills (3-4, 3-1) rushed for 40 yards in 10 carries.
The Dons scored in the fourth quarter when backup quarterback Kevin Mugavero ran six yards for a touchdown.
Mugavero threw to Victor Hines for a two-point conversion.
Belmont (4-3, 3-1) was led by quarterback Oscar Perez, who completed nine of 16 for 167 yards and a touchdown.
Belmont’s defense held Verdugo Hills to 123 yards.
