Prep Football Update

A look at the Southern Section divisions in which Orange County’s large-school football teams compete (rankings are from Southern Section divisional polls):

DIVISION I

Something will have to give in the Del Rey League, which opens league play next weekend. Three of the league’s four teams--No. 3 La Puente Bishop Amat, No. 5 Los Angeles Loyola and No. 10 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame--are unbeaten. Bishop Amat hosts Notre Dame on Friday.

CITRUS BELT

DIVISION VI

Four of the division’s ranked teams were losers on Friday, but two fell to higher ranked teams. Second-ranked Woodbridge topped Newport Harbor, 10-7, to leave the fifth-ranked Sailors in last place in the Sea View League. Sixth-ranked Villa Park outscored No. 7 Foothill, 59-35, to take charge in the Century League.

CENTURY

DIVISION IX

Defense took a holiday in the Garden Grove League, where the winners of last week’s three league games totaled 154 points. Two of those teams, Pacifica and Rancho Alamitos, meet on Friday. . . . Surprising Fullerton, which was 1-4 in nonleague games and finished last in the Freeway League last season, can go to 3-0 in the league with a victory Friday against Sonora.

FREEWAY

Standings: Fullerton 2-0, 3-4; Buena Park 1-1, 1-6; La Habra 1-1, 2-5; Sunny Hills 1-1, 3-4; Troy 1-1, 4-3; Sonora 0-2, 2-5.
