Team Seeking Auction Items

Share

The baseball program at Ventura High School is asking local residents and businesses for help on its upcoming auction.

Anyone who can donate a product or service is asked to chip in to support the school’s athletics program.

The Cougar baseball team, which depends on donations for its program, will host the silent and live auction Nov. 21 in the school’s cafeteria at 2155 E. Main St.

A preview of the silent auction items will begin at 5 p.m. The live auction will begin at 7 p.m.

Some of the more than 400 items up for auction include a new roll-top desk, Dodgers baseball tickets, sports memorabilia signed by Cal Ripken and other professional players, certificates to local restaurants, gift baskets and Disneyland tickets.

Last year’s event raised $7,000 for the team. Event coordinators hope that the $20,000 worth of merchandise on display this year will reap even more than that. The money will help pay for equipment and uniforms.

Because the school cannot fund the program, the athletes depend on fund-raisers such as the auction for support, said Dan Smith, the team’s head coach.

Dinner will also be available.
