Goalie Combo Blanks Devils

Stephane Fiset and Manny Legace combined to stop 40 shots and the Kings capitalized on two errors by Devil defenseman Sheldon Souray to beat New Jersey, 4-0, on Wednesday night.

Craig Johnson scored on a 2-on-1 break in the first period and defenseman Rob Blake scored a short-haned goal in the second by taking advantage of Souray’s mistakes.

Defenseman Steve Duchesne and Vladimir Tsyplakov scored in the third period as the Kings closed out a five-game trip (2-2-1).

The shutout was the first of the year for Los Angeles and it came in a game where it was outshot , 40-18. It was the second shared shutout in Kings’ history. Mario Lessard and Doug Keans beat Boston 3-0 on Feb. 20, 1980.

Fiset, who have been sidelined with a groin strain on his right side, stopped the first 23 Devil’s shots before having to leave with 6.31 to play in the second period after injuring the left side of his groin.
