Uniformed Officer Can Appear in Mailer

An Orange County judge Thursday refused to order Assemblyman Jim Morrissey (R-Santa Ana) to stop distributing a campaign mailer that includes a photograph of a police officer in uniform.

Democrat Lou Correa, who is challenging Morrissey for his central Orange County seat, had claimed in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that the photo violates a state law prohibiting police from engaging in political activity while on duty.

Superior Court Judge John Watson denied Correa’s request for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunctive relief.
