St. Margaret’s Cruises Past Calvary Chapel

Darren Kelly rushed for 193 yards in 15 carries and scored two touchdowns, leading St. Margaret’s to a 53-18 victory over Downey Calvary Chapel in an Academy League game Friday at Cerritos Valley Christian.

St. Margaret’s (5-3, 4-0) also got two touchdowns from Jimmy Freeman and Alex Perin and another from Brent Commerford. Perin also kicked a 22-yard field goal and Freeman threw a touchdown pass for the Tartans.

St. Margaret’s produced four touchdowns in the opening quarter for a 28-6 lead. Perin began the scoring with a 33-yard touchdown run, then Freeman caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Rhett Swanson for a 13-0 lead.

After Calvary Chapel cut the lead to 13-6, Kelly scored on a 69-yard touchdown run and Freeman returned a blocked punt 32 yards for another score.

Perin’s field goal increased the lead to 31-6 at the half.
