SANTA CLARITA — A 73-year-old Los Angeles man was killed Monday after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and veered into the path of a truck, according to authorities.
The victim’s name had not been released pending notification of relatives, said Scott Carrier, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The accident occurred about 9:15 p.m. in the northbound truck lanes of the Golden State Freeway near Sierra Highway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Shirley Gaines.
The man, for an unknown reason, lost control of the vehicle and hit the guardrail, authorities said. The vehicle careened into the faster lanes and was broadsided by a big rig, Gaines said.
The man was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Carrier said.
