Free-Ride Days Planned for New Toll Road
Officials on Wednesday recommended eight days of toll-free driving on the new Eastern Transportation Corridor when it opens Oct. 18.
The free days would be part of a campaign to educate the public about the new road. The existing Foothill Corridor toll road would also be free for the week.
If approved next week by the full board of the Transportation Corridor Agencies, the free rides would begin in the early morning hours of Oct. 18 and continue until midnight Oct. 25.
Commuters would be able to catch the new toll road, State Route 241, just before Weir Canyon on the Riverside Freeway and take it south.
Then there are several options: Exit at Chapman Avenue; take the toll road farther south to Interstate 5; or go even farther south and connect to the Foothill Transportation Corridor.
Motorists would save as much as $3.75 for each one-way trip.
Tollbooth attendants would be on duty through the free days to hand out information on the new toll roads and compile commuter statistics.
