An 80-year-old woman died in a fire that broke out in her bedroom Wednesday night, city firefighters said.

The fire started about 8:05 p.m. in a single-family residence in the 13700 block of Shablow Avenue. The blaze burned itself out before Los Angeles firefighters arrived, according to spokesman Jim Wells. The unidentified woman’s body was found inside the room.

“The woman’s mobility may have been impaired” because of her age, Wells said. The woman lived with relatives, but they were away from the house at the time, Wells said.

The fire was limited to the victim’s bedroom. Damage to the structure and contents of the house was estimated at $11,000.

Arson investigators were at the scene of the fire Wednesday night, but a cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
