Local Debuts for Five Groups

Five distinguished international ensembles will make their local debuts during the 1998-99 season of Chamber Music in Historic Sites.

They are the Kings Consort, appearing at the Regal Biltmore Hotel on March 8; violinist Andrew Manze and his Baroque trio, Romanesca, playing in the Viennese Room at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, Nov. 10; the British ensemble Orlando Consort, appearing in the Powell Library at UCLA, Feb. 12; the British choral ensemble Magnificat, which sings at St. Vincent de Paul Church at Adams and Figueroa, April 25; and the Vienna Piano Trio, which performs at the Doheny Mansion on the downtown campus of Mount St. Mary’s College, March 26.

In addition, the Da Camera Society, sponsor of the Historic Sites series, presents 20 more events on its season, ranging from the St. Petersburg Quartet to jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval.

The six ensembles on the Doheny Soiree series are the St. Petersburg String Quartet with clarinetist Michele Zukovsky, Oct. 23; the Orion String Quartet with violist Ida Kavafian, Nov. 20; violinist Martin Chalifour and pianist William Ransom, Feb. 5; the Jacques Thibaud String Trio with oboist Alan Vogel, March 5; the Vienna Piano Trio, March 26; and the Peabody Trio, April 16.

Among other series are Brillante, Premium, Capella Concerts and Now! In addition, the Da Camera Society of Mount St. Mary’s College sponsors a seventh season of Children’s Concerts in Historic Sites, Saturday afternoon family events at three local museums.
