Safety Message for Cyclists

Share

* I hope my fellow road cyclists will take a moment to think about safety while riding the roadways of Orange County.

I just witnessed an accident Aug. 25, involving a car and cyclists southbound on Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach.

It was a fatal. The image of the bicycle jammed under the front end of the car and the male cyclist lying several hundred yards behind left me stone cold.

I have been a bicycle fan for years and guilty of not watching my actions many times. To see this young rider under a yellow body bag with his fellow riders standing at his side was just too much to bear while heading to work.

Riders need to pay attention to the road, understand we all have to respect the rules and acknowledge that when riding in a group, we have to be cautious.

This message sounds mundane but once you see a fallen rider, it hurts a whole lot. God bless the rider’s family and those riders at his side.
