Two children were hospitalized Sunday following separate near-drowning incidents in the San Fernando Valley.
Paramedics were called to a Pacoima home after an almost 2-year-old child was reported to be barely conscious after being found in a backyard pool in the 11000 block of Biltmore Avenue about 3:40 p.m., authorities said.
The girl was being watched by an uncle, who told paramedics that he turned his back for “only a split second” and found the toddler in the water, said Brian Humphrey, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman.
Humphrey said paramedics found the child “profoundly lethargic” and rushed her to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she was listed in serious condition.
In the second incident, a 6-month-old girl from Canoga Park was hospitalized at Northridge Hospital Medical Center after she was found underwater in a bathtub of her family’s home in the 21000 block of Roscoe Boulevard about 7:20 p.m., Humphrey said. Her condition was not released Sunday night.
No further details were available about either child.
