* * * 1/2 Los Super Seven, “Los Super Seven,” RCA. You may be tempted to buy a plane ticket to the heart of Mexico after hearing what this mixture of Tex-Mex and Chicano artists did exploring their musical roots. David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos, Freddy Fender, Joe Ely and a few others team up with unusual synergy for a masterful revival album that looks into the future with unflinching optimism. Flaco Jimenez’s sweet accordion haunts the record, just like the memories of their parents listening to the radio marked these musicians forever. The result is an album of Mexican music that could only have been recorded in the U.S. The inclusion of Woody Guthrie’s “Deportee” adds to the overall feeling of racial solidarity and musical harmony. The group will perform tonight at the House of Blues.
