Described as “a man to match the mountains,” John W. Robinson is being honored for his research and writing about the San Gabriel mountains.
Robinson, a Fullerton resident and retired teacher, will receive the Donald H. Pflueger Local History Award from the Historical Society of Southern California at a luncheon Sept. 26.
The award goes to teachers and authors of outstanding books and articles on local history. It is named after a former Cal Poly Pomona professor and Historical Society board member, who set a standard with his histories of Glendora and Covina.
Robinson is one of four recipients and will receive $500 and a handcrafted, leather-bound copy of his book, “The San Gabriels: The Mountain Country from Soledad Canyon to Lytle Creek.”
The Historical Society of Southern California, founded in 1883, celebrates local history and those who promote it by teaching, writing about and preserving the past.
