Thousands are expected to attend today’s annual parade saluting historic Route 66, the Chicago-to-Los Angeles highway that cuts through Duarte, officials said.

This year’s grand marshals for America’s Salute to Route 66 are Olympians Rafer Johnson, who won a gold medal for the decathlon in 1960, and Dr. Sammy Lee, who won medals for diving in 1948 and 1952.

They will lead 125 parade entries, including antique and classic cars, floats, marching bands and drill teams.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. and moves east on Huntington Drive for a mile to Mt. Olive Drive.
