LEE VINING, Calif. — Two teenagers were in custody Saturday in connection with a fire that caused more than $1 million in damage to the high school in this eastern Sierra tourist town.
The juveniles, 15 and 17, were arrested after the Friday night fire destroyed 70% of the school, including its library, gym, auditorium and three classrooms.
Mono County officials said the origin of the fire was suspicious.
The building, which also functioned as the town’s junior high, served 46 students and three teachers.
Lee Vining is about 150 miles south of Reno, near the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park.
