Weber State Gets Kicks, Beats Idaho State, 6-3

Scott Shields kicked two field goals to give Weber State a 6-3 victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference football game Saturday at Pocatello, Idaho.

It was the first time in history Weber State (3-1) won a football game without a touchdown.

Shields’ kicks covered 39 yards in the first quarter and 20 yards with 6:09 left in the third.

Pete Garces kicked a 33-yard field goal for Idaho State (0-3) with 7:20 left in the game.

Morgan Welch of Weber State rushed for 254 yards.

Montana 37, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 14--Brian Gales and Brian Ah Yat each scored two touchdowns and the Grizzlies (2-1) rebounded from a rare home defeat to win a nonconference game at Missoula, Mont.

Ah Yat, who ran for touchdowns of five and 15 yards, completed 27 of 40 passes for 320 yards.

Chad Henry passed for one touchdown and ran for another for Cal Poly (0-3).

Montana State 41, Western Washington 12--Rob Compson passed for 199 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for another score for the Bobcats in a nonconference game at Bozeman, Mont.

Western Washington (1-1) led, 6-3, after one quarter but Compson gave Montana State (2-1) a 24-6 halftime lead by throwing touchdown passes to Craig Galle, Chip Hobbs and Arie Grey in the second quarter.

Boise State 42, Portland State 24--Shaunard Harts rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown, and Eron Hurley ran for 123 yards and two scores to help the Broncos win a nonconference game at Boise, Idaho.

Quarterback Bart Hendricks passed for 167 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards as the Broncos (2-1) piled up 380 yards on the ground.

Jim Blanchard completed 15 of 26 passes for 209 yards, hitting Art Williams with touchdown passes of nine, 31 and 34 yards for Portland State (1-1).

UC Davis 35, Sacramento State 17--Kevin Daft passed for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the Aggies’ nonconference victory at Davis.

Daft threw touchdown passes of 43 and nine yards to John Shoemaker, and 43 yards to Francis Montes for the Aggies (3-0).

Charles Roberts scored for Sacramento State (2-1) on runs of one and 69 yards.
