Western League Gives Suns the Boot

Share

The Western Baseball League on Monday voted to revoke the franchise of the Pacific Suns, an Oxnard-based team that finished last in the league with a 28-62 record in its only season.

Tom Kowitz, the league’s executive director, would not elaborate on why the team was ejected except to say that the on-field record and poor attendance were not factors. Abandonment of a franchise or insolvency would be grounds for removal, he said.

“The Suns are aware of the precise reasons for the action,” Kowitz said.

The Suns’ shareholders met for several hours Monday at the team’s Oxnard office. President Paul Regina was not immediately available for comment.
