LANCASTER — A truck suspected of running a stop sign slammed into another pickup Thursday, killing a woman and a 7-year-old while injuring two other children, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol did not release the names of the dead. Those injured included an 8-year-old girl treated for moderate injuries. But a 12-year-old boy was listed in critical condition after being airlifted by helicopter from the crash site to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles.
The accident at 2:35 p.m. at Avenue H and Avenue 30 left the two vehicles badly mangled. An investigation was underway into whether the driver of one truck had run a stop sign, CHP spokesman Paul Rogers said.
One of the vehicles was westbound on H, and the other was northbound on Avenue 30, according to the CHP.
