Abrams Resigns at Montclair Prep

After spending 22 years coaching basketball at Montclair Prep, Howard Abrams said Monday he has resigned and will serve as an assistant athletic director at the Van Nuys campus.
Abrams’ teams won three Southern Section championships and one state title. He said he is taking this year off from coaching but may return next season. Montclair Prep girls’ Coach Bob Webb will direct the boys’ team.
VOLLEYBALL
Julian injured: Harvard-Westlake setter Ashlie Julian is out four to six weeks with a hairline fracture in her right wrist. Julian, a 6-foot-1 junior, injured herself in practice last week and will be replaced by junior Leslie Miller.
BASEBALL
Return home: Former Calabasas High catcher Josh Goldfield and former Antelope Valley pitcher Jeremy Holiday have left San Francisco and transferred to Moorpark College.
SOCCER
Strong defense: The Cal State Northridge men’s team defeated St. Mary’s, 2-0, Sunday in a nonconference match at St. Mary’s. Patrick Russo and Luis Castro scored for the Matadors (3-4).
MEMORIAL
Kokon services: Funeral services for longtime San Fernando Valley sportswriter Pete Kokon will be held today at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, 22601 Lassen Street. Kokon died last Thursday. He was 85.
