Dog and Cat Adoptions Taking Place Today

Share

Dogs and cats in need of homes will be available for adoption today at Ralphs supermarket on Ventura Boulevard.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles will process the adoptions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

People interested in adopting a pet should bring proof that they live in a house or apartment that allows pets, said Rose Channer, senior director of outreach at the SPCALA, a nonprofit animal welfare organization.

Families should prepare themselves for the work that comes with pet ownership, Channer said.

“They need to be aware that this animal probably is going to live for 10 or 15 years, and they need to take care of it,” she said. “It’s taking on the responsibility of another life.”

The cost is $75 to adopt a dog and $55 for a cat. The price includes spaying or neutering and vaccinations, as well as a free veterinarian examination within 15 days to make sure the pet is healthy.

The SPCALA operates an adoption center weekly in Studio City. Call (888)-SPCA-LA1. for more information.
