Taylor Limiting Strain on Achilles’

Rather than risk tearing one of his Achilles’ tendons, power forward Maurice Taylor did not dress against Phoenix on Tuesday night, missing his second game in a row.

Taylor’s injury is bilateral Achilles’ tendinitis and he is listed as day to day. He has been playing with the injury since the Clippers played at Seattle on March 14.

“Basically, I’m not going to rush it,” said Taylor, the Clippers’ leading scorer at 16 points a game. “Dealing with something like an Achilles’ [injury], you really can’t.

“I’d rather be out two games than be out six or seven months with [a ruptured Achilles’ tendon].”

Rodney Rogers started at power forward in place of Taylor against the Suns. Rogers, who made his seventh start of the season, did not have one of his better games with only seven points and four rebounds in 35 minutes. Lorenzen Wright, who started in place of Taylor against Denver on Sunday, came off the bench and still matched his team-leading rebounding average with eight boards.

If backup point guard Troy Hudson hadn’t signed his second 10-day contract with the Clippers last week, he would be playing with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the second round of the playoffs in the Continental Basketball Assn. . . . With Sherman Douglas running the point, Hudson played only six minutes in the fourth quarter, and only at shooting guard.
