Benton ‘Ben’ Turner; Petroleum Engineer

Longtime Ventura County resident Benton “Ben” Turner died Tuesday. He was 90.

Born on March 20, 1909, in Aberdeen, Wash., Turner attended the University of Nevada and received a degree in mining in 1932. He went on to receive a master’s degree in petroleum engineering from UC Berkeley in 1937.

Turner came to Ventura in 1945 as a production superintendent for Lloyd Corp. After serving as the company’s Ventura County manager, he retired in 1992.

Turner also founded Union Truck Co. and served as president of the Union Engineering Co. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Petroleum Production Pioneers.

An avid sailor, Turner sailed nine times to and from the Sea of Cortez. He was also a member of the Santa Barbara Yacht Club.

Turner is survived by his wife, Jeanette Clark; their children, Janice and Robert Turner; his brother, Paul Turner; and one granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Assn.
