SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A multi-county freeway chase ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon after a 36-year-old man led police on a two-hour pursuit.

The chase began just before 3 p.m. when Simi Valley police attempted to pull over James Mitchell Robertson for not wearing a seat belt while he was driving near Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street.

Robertson, who is thought to be a transient, did not stop his red Dodge Acclaim and began traveling eastbound on the Ronald Reagan Freeway, police said.

He drove into the San Fernando Valley and then went south on the Golden State Freeway.

After that, Robertson began traveling west on California 134.

At the 405 Freeway, Robertson traveled south, going through Brentwood and West Los Angeles.

At the Santa Monica Freeway, he headed west to the coast, where he turned north onto Pacific Coast Highway.

Police put a spike strip in the path of Robertson’s vehicle in Camarillo, deflating at least two tires at PCH and Las Posas Road.

However, Robertson then traveled south on the Ventura Freeway before surrendering to police on the eastern slope of the Conejo Grade just before 5 p.m.

He was arrested and was expected to be booked late Wednesday at the County Jail on charges of felony evading arrest.

Police may also press drug charges. Authorities said they collected at least one bag that Robertson allegedly threw from the window that may contain a controlled substance.
