Postal Service Contract Driver Dies in Crash
A Rosamond man died early Wednesday after his truck skidded off the Antelope Valley Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. when L. V. Hall, 68, a contract driver for the U.S. Postal Service, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Hall’s trailer then drifted off the road and up a dirt embankment just outside Palmdale, according to CHP spokesman Richard Perez.
The 48-foot rig slammed into a cement wall, throwing Hall out of his cab and onto the roadway, Perez said.
Hall, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered massive head injuries and died at the scene, Perez said.
For the last eight years, Hall worked as an outside contract driver for the postal service, said spokeswoman Terri Bouffiou. The load he was driving comprised mostly bulk mail to be delivered to the postal service’s Mojave processing center.
Hall was driving for Jackson Trucking, a Carson-based company that contracts with the postal service. Hall worked for the company for about 10 years, a company spokesman said.
