Rain Forces Both Semifinals to Be Suspended

Share

Rain disrupted the National Classic tournament Thursday and both semifinal games were suspended until today.

El Dorado was tied with Miami Pace, 3-3, in the fourth inning at Cal State Fullerton when play was stopped. Esperanza was trailing Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore, 4-2, in the fourth at Amerige Park before that game was halted.

Tournament director Ira Novick said both semifinals would resume today, weather permitting, at 10 a.m. at their respective parks.

El Dorado was trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third when the Golden Hawks rallied to tie it. Pace starter Carlos Fernandez opened the door by walking the first three batters.

A wild pitch scored Joe Turgeon with the first El Dorado run. After Zach Mullinax’s single loaded the bases again, Justin Angevine lined a two-run double into right field.

The rain started in the top of the fourth and play was stopped with two outs, Justin Carlin on third and Fernandez facing El Dorado’s J.P. Frid with a full count.
