A 22-year-old Chino Hills man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of drunk driving when his pickup struck and injured two pedestrians in Newport Beach and then hit another vehicle, police said.

Police alleged that Joseph Turley was driving the 1996 Chevrolet truck east on Via Lido about 2 a.m. Sunday when it hit Ryan O’Neal, 21, and Mark Faul, 33, as the pair took a marked crosswalk at Via Oporto.

O’Neal, of Costa Mesa, suffered head injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. Faul, of Orange, suffered a minor leg injury and refused medical treatment. Turley was not hurt, said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Mike McDermott.

Authorities said Turley fled the scene. He was arrested after a witness followed his pickup and saw it hit a parked car on Via Malaga, McDermott said. The witness called police and Turley was arrested a block away from the second accident, McDermott said. Turley was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail at the Newport Beach jail.
