Record High Is Set for 2nd Straight Day
Oxnard had record-breaking heat Saturday for a second consecutive day, according to the National Weather Service.
The mercury rose to 85 degrees, breaking a daytime record of 80 that was set in 1937. The high temperature Friday was 88, five degrees warmer than the previous record of 83 for that day set in 1925.
Simi Valley on Saturday tied its record of 90 degrees set in 1980.
A week ago, daytime temperatures throughout Ventura County ranged between the mid-60s and high 70s.
“It’s unusual because it went from being nice to relatively hot in a few days,” said meteorologist Bruce Rockwell of the National Weather Service’s office in Oxnard.
The county’s coolest spot was at Point Mugu, where the temperature reached 80 degrees.
The high was 84 in Ventura and 90 in Thousand Oaks.
It is expected to be sunny and warm again today with slightly cooler temperatures, Rockwell said.
