Two 15-year-old boys were arrested Tuesday in connection with vandalism at the city’s public library. The boys, whose names were not released because of their age, were released to their parents after confessing to a total of nine acts of vandalism over the last few months, said Sheriff’s Lt. Kim Markuson. The arrests came after a vandalism incident at Fred Newhart Middle School on Monday. Markuson said deputies responding to complaints about skateboarding stopped three teenagers about 7:30 p.m., found black pens on them and noticed fresh graffiti on classroom doors, water fountains and restroom stalls.

What linked the boys to the library incident was the misspelled word “korupt,” Markuson said. The library suffered at least $30,000 in damage, including severe damage to a city-owned public works truck. When deputies searched the home of one of the boys, they found pieces of a radio from the truck, Markuson said.

Charges are pending with the Orange County district attorney’s juvenile office. Markuson said the city will seek reimbursement for the damage.
