Names of Six in Car Crash Are Released
Authorities on Thursday released the names of six people injured--some severely--in Wednesday morning’s head-on collision between two cars on Angeles Crest Highway.
Five Verdugo Hills High School students were packed into a Ford Escort when the driver crossed the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic and slammed into an Oldsmobile driven by a 53-year-old mail carrier, according to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Jordan Van Meter.
The students--Noelle Carrara, 17, of Tujunga; Steven Altamirano, 18, of South Gate; Ismael Esparza, 18, of Inglewood; Michael Lazzara, 18, of Sunland; and Luis Albarca, 18, of Tujunga--did not have permission to be off campus, Van Meter said.
Noelle, who was admitted to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, may be paralyzed, officials said. The conditions of the other teenagers were not available.
The postal worker, Amado Ramos of Norwalk, was treated for minor injuries at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, the CHP said.
