Silvina Pelosso is finally going home.

With forensic tests complete, the remains of the teenager will be flown back to Argentina in a corporate jet donated by San Diego Chargers owner and philanthropist Alex Spanos.

The burned bodies of Silvina, 16, and Carole Sund, 42, of Eureka, were returned Thursday night to the coroner’s office in Sonora by FBI investigators.

FBI spokesman Nick Rossi said he expects the trip to Argentina to be made Sunday.

Argentine Consul General Luis Maria Kreckler has accepted official responsibility for returning the teenager’s remains to her family, who live in Cordoba.

Silvina was spending her vacation in Eureka with the Sunds, and was two weeks short of returning home when she accompanied Sund and her daughter, Juliana, 15, on a trip to Yosemite National Park. The three women were last seen alive Feb. 15.

The burned remains of Silvina and Sund were found in the trunk of their burned-out rental car March 19. Juliana’s body was found about a week later and more than 30 miles away, near Lake Don Pedro.

The cause of their deaths have not been released. Investigators continue to question potential witnesses and present evidence to a federal grand jury in Fresno.
