There’s Nothing Cool About Way Dodgers Changed a Stadium Treat

Share

Today the J.A. stands for Just Asking. . .

Is anyone else besides me upset that the Dodgers stopped selling Cool-A-Coo ice cream treats at their games and replaced them with It’s It? It’s It might have the same chocolate-covered-ice-cream-cookie- sandwich idea, but an It’s It isn’t a Cool-A-Coo, is it? Has there been a worse concession decision since the steamed Dodger Dogs? What’s a Dodger game without a Cool-A-Coo? Guess we’re finding out the hard way, aren’t we?

By the way, how did we go from talk of building a new NFL stadium next to Dodger Stadium to talk of building a new Dodger Stadium next to an NFL stadium?

Wasn’t it typical of the arrogance of the NFL to deem it necessary to declare the New Coliseum as the site of L.A.’s next football team after Michael Ovitz had already announced he was dropping his efforts to build a stadium in Carson? Isn’t that like announcing support for a candidate after he’s already won the election?

Do you realize that if this were a normal NBA year, we’d be just past the halfway point right now? Since we’re entering the last leg of this messed-up season, is there enough time for the Lakers to get their act together?

Here’s one for you: Did you know that not only do the Clippers have one more victory over the Portland Trail Blazers than the Lakers can claim this season, the Clippers have a better record against the Utah Jazz (2-6) over their last eight meetings than the Lakers (1-7, counting last year’s playoff sweep)?

Since the Lakers are 2-0 when Michael Jordan sits courtside, why isn’t Jerry Buss trying to get Jordan to buy into his team?

At this rate--with 323, 424 and more phone number changes still to come--will the saying “He hit the ball into the next area code” have any meaning?

Is KTLA really going to dump Ed Arnold? Isn’t there still a place on TV for a guy who just delivers the sports news and doesn’t waste your time with gimmicks?

When is Todd Hundley going to throw out his first baserunner?

I think Kevin Malone will prove to be a good general manager for the Dodgers, but does he realize that right now we have to evaluate him on the trade for Hundley and the trade of Dave Mlicki? I mean, wouldn’t anybody in Malone’s position and with that mad Murdoch money at his disposal have signed Kevin Brown and Jeff Shaw? So if opposing players keep running on Hundley like it’s the Penn Relays and Carlos Perez can’t get anybody out, who else are we going to blame?

And how many more three-run pitching performances by Kevin Brown are the Dodgers going to waste?

Isn’t it good to hear Marv Albert doing national NBA games again?

Mark McGwire’s 64th home run ball is still for sale on the Internet for $90,000, so what’s taking you so long?

Now that Dennis Rodman has nothing better to do, don’t you want him to try out for the New Orleans Saints just to see if Mike Ditka would wear a rainbow wig?

What’s with the Galaxy firing Coach Octavio Zambrano five games into the season? Was Tim Leiweke trying to make up for the Kings waiting so long to can Larry Robinson?

Did you see Amy (the Long Island Lolita) Fisher is back in the news, possibly only weeks away from earning parole? Honestly now, did you really think we could escape the millennium without another update on the Buttafuocos?

What are the WNBA and the women’s basketball player’s union thinking, putting their season at risk? Do they really think that just because the NBA survived a lockout, they can do the same thing?

Just because the Mighty Ducks didn’t want to face Detroit in the first round of the playoffs, does that mean they have to play like it?

I’m all for tradition, but couldn’t the Cleveland Browns have used the rebirth of their franchise as a prime opportunity to get a new helmet design? Is there a worse helmet anywhere? Penn State’s basic white and blue look good together, but brown and orange?

Has any team ever looked good in orange besides the Denver Broncos and Carver High’s squad in “The White Shadow”?

Just asking.
